People come into my office for all reasons imaginable, yet every reason stems from a similar spiritual and existential yearning we all are longing for in some way. That yearning presents itself as a “presenting problem,” (even though there is much more happening for you most likely). That presenting problem might be gently (or not so gently) and thoughtfully guiding you to confront more within yourself.
Presenting Problems:
- I’m unsatisfied with my relationship in some way
- I’m in constant conflict with someone/people in my life
- I am having disturbing dreams at night
- I feel lonely/I don’t feel seen
- I am grieving the loss of someone, something in my life, or something within myself
- I’m experiencing anxiety, depression, or relentless anger that I don’t want to be holding onto anymore
- I feel personally attacked by people, my community, and sometimes the world
- I don’t know what I’m feeling and not sure how to proceed
- There is discomfort in my bodily experience
- I wish I had more of a spiritual practice, and space to be reflective and work on my self growth, consciousness.

But let’s not view you as a “presenting problem,” but a more dynamic individual. Underlying these “presenting problems,” and most any other struggle you can think of, are deeper needs wanting to be honored and met.
Deeper Underlying Needs:
- I want to experience a sense of purpose
- I want to feel connected in my relationships, and experience the level of intimacy I desire
- I want to be able to express myself more assertively, and generally honor myself a bit more
- I want a witness to my life story, someone to validate the way I feel about my lived experience.
- I want to feel more connected to my own body, and understand its sacred language, and what it is trying to tell me
- I want to pay more attention to my unconscious, and the collective consciousness
- I want to feel more empowered and responsible for my own experience
- I want to be able to locate, understand, and express my feelings
- I don’t want the experience of others to rule how I feel and exist in the world
- I want a space to challenge myself, and focus on becoming a more conscious individual
